When Alvas first developed their floating “sprung“ floor design, we thought it was stupid to ship plywood across the country so we just sold the lightweight “American made” foam blocks with instructions on how to build it yourself. A lot of people like to try to build it themselves to save money, so we took all the guesswork out of it, which guarantees that you’ll come up with a great floor. Since then, though, there are some people that don’t have an uncle Joe to help them with the work and they would prefer to have the panels shipped to them complete. This certainly speeds up the process.
We now manufacture complete panels. All components are made in the United States. And even with quality materials it works out to be about $11 a square foot, which is less expensive than the few other quality floors out there. Less expensive and lower to the ground. Legally ramping up to comply with ADA codes becomes easier when you’re not ramping up so high. Only 1 3/4” off the ground…….. that can be huge!
Everybody agrees that Dancing on a “softer“ floor feels better and is most likely better on your joints. There’s literature out there about dampening and resiliency from scientific studies, doctors notes, etc. but it usually comes down to if it feels good to you or not. Shock Absorbency and Surface Texture are the two factors to focus on. At Alvas, we cannot guarantee that you will like the look of anything we do. The look is in the eye of the beholder, and we deal with what’s in the feet of the beholder :-)
