Alvas Dance Floating Subfloor is Preferred
Alvas tried-and-true superior Floating Subfloor design allows the subfloor to “breathe” (flex as a whole floor), instead of each panel flexing individually. This is why our do-it-yourself instructions are so important!
Our design also specifies for 9″ Lamination 5′ x 5′ x 1/2″ Baltic Birch Plywood Sheets.” Most plywood sheets will delaminate within its layers. The plywood sheets in our design are manufactured with 9 crisscross laminations, contributing to your investment and will last for years, if not decades.
Alvas Floating Subfloor is low, just 1-3/4″ high, and needs only a 21″ ramp (Complies with most building codes). No tongue-and-groove biscuit joints are needed. The size and color of the foam blocks may vary slightly; variances in size and/or color will in no way hinder the functionality of the floor.
Don’t forget to add a Matlay or Marlay vinyl dance floor surface for texture! Prefer to not to add vinyl flooring? That’s fine, too! Check out our FAQ on applying a clear coat to your Alvas Floating Subfloor. You will have a beautiful floor and you’ll feel like you’re dancing on a cloud.

Customer Satisfaction
Customers call us back saying, “We are so glad we bought your floor. It was easy to build, saved us so much money and looks beautiful.”
Even Misty Copeland said: “As a professional Classical Ballet Dancer, our shoes are everything! Beyond that, no matter how incredible the fit and comfort of the shoe, the floor we dance on is our world! Having grown up in San Pedro, California, and relying on Alvas for all of the dance gear, it couldn’t be more fitting that as a soloist with a world renowned ballet company, I would end up falling in love with their Floating Subfloors. A floor that has give when I land from jumps, and a surface that allows you to be daring, is a necessity. Alvas flooring provides both. Alvas has reliable products that I have always been able to count on.”

Precautions
Heavy objects (over 100 lbs) cannot sit on any foam bottom floating floor for an extended period of time (more than 12 hours).
Prior to installation, make sure there is no water leaks or under-concrete water seepage, as no floor should be installed in any room if moisture penetration is suspected. The area must remain dry.
